Immediate thoughts

My first thoughts when the Library was assigned as our performance site, was at first almost disappointment. I was expecting a completely new experience, and the library for most students here is very familiar to us, due to writing many essays and endless days and nights of gathering research. However during our first meeting with Dan he quickly persuaded and changed my mind on this almost straight away. He explained how we can visit and rehearse 24 hours a day, and that to me is always a good thing! The library for me is a place that I find inspirational; it is full with such knowledge and history. The building itself is still growing; it is very modern and a beautiful piece of designed architecture. From entering the building, your experience changes depending on what you’re doing, either on what book you are reading or developing an essay or researching, is effected on how it makes you feel at the time. It can make you feel relaxed, stressed, inspired, and optimistic and they are just a few feelings! Adding to this, it made me think about our future Site-Specific Performance being an experience for us, the performers and mostly the other students that will be in the library at the time, that are used to viewing the space as a peaceful, quiet and informational place. When thinking about the library as not the obvious, but as a space to perform will be a challenge for me and it will be the start as something original and out of my comfort zone, saying that… I am very excited and optimistic to start!
